The air in her lungs rushed to escape and time stood still. She was aware of only him. Beyond her control, her head tilted and her whole body leaned toward him; her inner core pulsed and buzzed. He drew her in like a magnet, a moth to flame; she was helpless to resist his siren call. He emulated danger, looked like evil incarnate—black and dangerous, seductive and forbidden—and she wanted him.
When he grabbed her harshly by both shoulders, she snapped out of her lust-induced trance. “What do you think you’re doing?” she demanded.
“We must get out of here.” His words were calm, but his eyes stared right through her.
Cynthia opened her mouth to object.
“There is no time,” he announced as he tugged on her arm.
“Let go of me!” She tried to pull away. “I don’t know you.”
Holding her arm still, he stared into her eyes without saying a word.
Okay, he seems a little familiar. She gulped. “How do I know you?”
Giving her a penetrating look, he replied, “You know me. Quit wasting time.”
She opened her mouth to protest again.
“We must leave now.”
Should I go with him? She tilted her head and looked up at him. His gaze was strong and steady and made her feel safe. This is not the time to be indecisive. She thought about the threat at work and shivered despite the heat.
You will be safe with me. There is no time. We must leave now. His voice entered her thoughts like a caress in her mind and didn’t alarm her.
He was right. There was no time to analyze her options and run through various scenarios. For all she knew, every scenario without him could mean danger for her. Her body wanted to follow him, she admitted with reluctance, even if her mind resisted. Yes, she would go, she decided, even as she felt herself following him down the street.
Power resonated from his muscular build. He kept a hand in a firm but gentle hold on her elbow as they hurried down the sidewalk. Unmindful of their destination, Cynthia had ample time to study her new “friend.” He towered over her by at least a foot, wearing a black leather jacket despite the warm day, and dark jeans that showcased his narrow waist. Every beefy inch of him screamed passion and strength—his tight clothing doing nothing to disguise the sinewy muscles rippling in his legs as he moved—but she wasn’t frightened of him. She hesitated for a minute. Should I be afraid? No, she decided. She felt eerily calm, like all her life had been leading her up to this moment in time, and she was exactly where she was supposed to be. The reason she let a perfect stranger lead her to God-knew-where.
She shifted her thick hair over her shoulder as sweat soaked at the base of her neck. The day’s temperature had yet to peak, but it was already warm enough to be uncomfortable and practically running in office attire didn’t help matters.
“I need a moment,” she said.
They made an abrupt stop. The man offered her an unopened bottle of water. After casting an assessing look at him she accepted the bottle, and took a long, welcome drink.
“Thank you.”
The man dismissed her thanks with a casual shrug.
Cynthia shot him a questioning look.
“Later,” he replied in a brisk voice. “We need to go.”
“Where?”
“We need to go,” he repeated, ignoring her question.
They had covered several blocks and, as they moved further from her office, the sights became less familiar and a tremor of fear shook through her body. Where did this guy come from? Why does he think I know him? Because I do know him. The realization hit her hard in the stomach. It’s him.
“I need—”
“We need to keep going,” he insisted without further explanation.
“No!” She planted her hands on her hips and her feet in the firmest stance she could manage as she wobbled on the uneven sidewalk. Then she looked down at her feet and a strange sense of déjà vu washed over her as she stared at the cobblestone path. Her mouth gaped, her breathing quickened. With dread she looked up at the buildings on the street. Her vision blurred. Everything around her spun and faded away as she collapsed into strong arms. She had a vague awareness of him lifting her. As he adjusted his hold, she bounced against his solid chest. She must be dreaming. That was the only explanation that made sense. Nothing like this ever happened in her boring, ordinary life. It’s just a dream. Swallowing her disappointment, she glanced up at the determined expression on his face. He carried her effortlessly, like she weighed nothing. When she rested her head on his chest, she could feel his heart beating steadily. She ran her hand lightly across his defined bicep. Wow. He wasn’t real, but she might as well make the most of it; from experience she knew her dream wouldn’t last forever.

An open letter...

I have been slowly watching the blog become less and less. With the Facebook algorithms as they are, people aren't seeing Dowie's Place it seems. I put so much time and money into the blog.
I chose in the very beginning to NOT have ads and junk filling my page. I don't like seeing it. Its ugly and annoying. The other side of that token... I don't make money off of my blog like others. I don't have affiliate links and I don't sell ads.
I am putting so much time into the blog and getting NOTHING in return.
I don't see interaction, people don't enter my giveaways unless I beg and plead..... I am finding this isn't worth it.
I am considering shutting down.
I had hoped that branding the page and the big giveaway would bring people in.... I cant tell that it did.
I am not begging people to read my page. I can read my books and review without the blog.
I will make my final decision by the end of the year.

“My Lady, I cannot leave you here alone. It’s not safe.”
I whipped my eyes open and glared at him. “I told you I was banished. You can stop with the formalities and get. I don’t have time to waste on a pathetic royal guard. Especially a MarkTier. I'm okay on my own.”
“If you come with me, I know a safe place where you can get out of the rain and get warm.”
I laughed. It came out more hysterical than I intended, but I was not in a mood to keep it together any longer. The fact that he offered me any shelter at all, most likely his home, was gracious, yet the knowledge that it was most likely on ArcKnight territory made the offer even more bittersweet. I was banished not only from the royal ArcKnight palace but from lingering on any of the pack’s territories, which included a substantial chunk of the city.
I was truly alone now.
“You’d be punished for harboring a non-citizen… a traitor like me. I can’t. You know I can’t.”
He held out his hand. It glistened with water, for he was soaked to the bone, just like me. The cold rain didn’t affect him at all. I was the one shivering and on the verge of hypothermia, and yet he waited patiently.
“It’s beyond the ArcKnight border. I promise.” His eyes gleamed in the momentary moonlight sneaking past the storm clouds above. They were breathtaking and unusual. I’d never seen another shifter with eyes like his.
It may be beyond the ArcKnight stronghold, but they weren’t the only pack ruling the city.
“But the MarkTiers….”
“They have no jurisdiction there either.”
Staring at him in disbelief, I let my eyes linger on his for an eternal moment. His offer brought more questions to my mind than anything else. Even so, there was something there that held me in a trance and beckoned me to follow. Taken in by that hypnotizing cobalt sea, I reached out, accepted his hand and let him lead me through the murky city paths I’d never trodden, deeper into the unknown.
This place was now my new home, and it was nothing but strange and frightening.
But what choice did I have?

There is not one word in these books that isn't perfect. I loved reading every one of them!
Alexia has such a way of creating these magical, and fantastical worlds that you  just want to be a part of forever!
In book one, we learn more about the world of shifters. We are introduced to two rival packs, and meet Lilliana- she has lost her talisman and she is kicked out of her pack for it. Ephrem appears as she has made the conscious choice to not let this be the end for her. Between the two of them, emotions are high and the stakes are even higher if they are found out.
I LOVED IT!

We pick up in book two just after book one has ended. We see Lily and Ephrem trying to make their way in life, along comes something.... different. This is new and neither of them have ever seen it.
We read more about the "old feud" that no one knew about and see how they both have to learn to manage and deal with that all on top of just being forbidden to be who they are. It's hard to imagine dealing with all of that and making it believable, but Alexia does it!
We learn more about Lily's family. We see more of her sister and the trials that she is also facing as well.
An excellent addition to the new story. Suggested for mature readers, and be ready for a wild ride!

What a great start to this series!!! From the very beginning we are pulled into a mystery at every turn! At first as I read I thought that all the mystery surrounding the story was going to get mushy, but I was so wrong! Every little intricate detail that was withheld and then revealed just added to the climax of the story!
Juliana was left by Thomas and since he has been away she has really been suffering, suddenly he is back and there is all kinds of havoc in her life! I am pretty sure this wasn't coincidental!
You simply must read this book! Loved it!

Death’s Daughter

Kathleen Collins

Genre: urban fantasy, paranormal romance
Publisher: Carina press
ISBN: 9781426898112
ASIN: B00GKBIR80
Word Count:  68,000

Book Description:

Juliana Norris, Realm Walker with the Agency, is an Altered. A fact that she runs up against every time she’s forced to work with human police officers, and their species-ist commissioner, on cases they can’t solve themselves. Which happens more than they would like to admit.
Her gift—the quality that makes her the best Realm Walker in the business, without boast—is the ability to read magical signatures. Whether the gift came from her father, the dark fae god of death, or the mage mother she can’t remember, is anyone’s guess. And when Altered children start going missing with only wild magical signatures as clues, her heritage is the last thing on her mind.
She can’t afford such distractions, and she definitely can’t afford to worry about the fact that her mate, master vampire Thomas Kendrick, hasn’t spoken to her since she saved him from a demon—maybe it’s because she had to stab him to do so. Because whoever is kidnapping these children must be very powerful to wield wild magic. Very powerful, and very dangerous indeed.

WOWZA!!! What a follow up!
In book one we saw that Juliana was struggling to do her job and keep herself alive, then Thomas came back into her life. Her 7 year gone mate! Thomas was able to help her to stay alive, so what if she stabbed him in the process.... a girl has to do what she has to do!
We are able to get to know Juliana and Thomas as a couple more in this book. I must say, the ah.... love scenes did catch me a tad off guard as I wasn't expecting them to be as graphic as they were, so heads up on that!
I loved the book overall, and I feel that we are completely set up to have more!!!

~A Note From Kathleen~
Writing is a process. Like anything else you have to find the process that works for you, usually through trial and error. What works for some, won’t necessarily work for you and that’s okay. There is no right or wrong way to find your flow.

My writing process is fairly simple. First, I prefer somewhere comfortable to write. I do better with my computer in my lap on the couch or in my recliner, but I have written in my car or the break table at work just as well. The only absolute requirement for me to write is headphones and music. Every piece/series I write has its own playlist. This helps me get into the world of the book while filtering out the real world around me. There are times when I’ve written without my music by necessity but my output is much higher with my playlist blasting in my ears.

I know others that can only work in one particular chair, or in one particular room. Some people write in absolute silence, to white noise, chanting monks or favorite TV shows or movies. Some people plot out their stories so thoroughly that their outline is tens of pages long and there are pages and pages of backstory that will never be written. Others start with a loose idea and just see where the words take them as they go. And then there is those like me that are somewhere in the middle with a loose outline that changes and warps easily as they go.

Whatever your quirks and requirements are, the most important thing is that you discover them and embrace them. If it makes you more productive then who cares who silly or strange it might seem to someone else. The important thing is that is works for you.

So, fellow writers, what are some of your requirements for happy, productive writing time? If you aren’t a writer, what routines do have to follow for other tasks like reading or exercising? I always find it interesting to hear about other peoples’ processes, so please share.
