1.) Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I'm a born and raised New Yorker. I'm very creative person, I love to paint, draw, knit, scrapbook and obviously write! I eat way too much junk food. My blood type is Starbucks. I drive like a maniac. And finally, I don’t have a serious bone in my body—I’m all sarcasm and humor.

2.) What do you do when you are not writing?
Daydreaming about my characters! And in between daydreams I work nights as a Medical Receptionist.

3.) When did you first start writing and when did you finish your book?
I've always liked writing, I was always one of those weirdos that preferred essays to tests. I've always kept some sort of journal, but it wasn’t until Jan 2013 that it started to manifest into a full on story line. By December 2013 my first book was up on Smashwords.

4.) Do you ever experience writer's block?
Oh yea, it's the worst! Sometimes you just have to take a break. You can't force something that's not there. Sometimes that’s where my best ideas come from. If I didn’t Awakening wouldn’t have the Psychic scene or her first date with Jack. Even Initiation I needed to walk away from for a few weeks to get some ideas together.

5.) What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
My favorite chapters to write in Initiation were the ones from Jack's point of view. It's so refreshing to get out of Sera's head and see things from a different perspective. That and the fact that he is a very interesting character, I don’t want to give anything away for those that haven't read Awakening, but you get a glimpse into how he sees the world.

6. ) How did you come up with the title?
I love titles, I love one word that can evoke some kind of emotion. I originally wanted it to be self-titled: Seraphina, but apparently someone beat me to it (I hear it’s a very good book as well btw) So I added a subtitle. I thought "The Awakening" was pretty ominous and then "Initiation" indicates she's going to have to overcome some things.

7.) Do you base your characters on people you know?
Seraphina I wanted to portray how I was feeling at the time and ultimately to give myself some hope for the future. Amanda, however, is based on my best friend Miranda. (Super creative with the naming don’t you think)

8.) If Yes, did you tell them?
Well, after all my friends read it, they kind of guessed who Amanda was based off of.

9.) What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an Author? What has been the best compliment?
Toughest is definitely hearing I'm a poor writer. I'll admit I'm not the best writer, but I feel like I have a pretty strong story. It's fairly different from what's out there and I like it. The best compliment is hearing that anyone loves my story. It warms my heart.

10.) Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?
Thank you for reading & spending time in my head! I love every review, every like, every share, means the world to me. I would literally be nothing without you.
~
Wow.... just wow!
I started reading this one and I had to stop myself from reading and message Sheena to tell her how much I was laughing about some of the character interactions.
We pick up right where book one leaves off and we have Nate and Sera really working hard to fight the evil that is taking over the town. Sera learns about herself, about her powers and she learns more about Jack.
Jack, Jack, Jack.... oh my. You HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!!
I refuse to spoil anything for you, but there are some AMAZING reveals in book two, and in true Sheena Hutchinson fashion- we are left with a cliffhanger. Don't worry, I  messaged her about that too!
It's few stories that get you so involved hat you literally feel for the characters, I was laughing, and getting nervous... and of course I gave up a nights sleep to read it.
You wont regret reading this series!
It's enough to make you believe in Angels.

JOSEPH
I searched for movement, but I could see none. My eyes squinted and strained, staring at the side of the concrete wall. Smooth, dull, and perfectly curved.
A puff of dust pushed out from the wall like a hard cough. A few moments later, a small, popping sound followed.
Then sirens wailed thinly as if mildly displeased. The only indication of how serious the situation was seemed to be the way all the lights swung around to focus on the explosion site.
The screen opened in the sky minutes later like daylight had cut through the night accidentally. The clouds were the perfect backdrop for the show. I waited, barely breathing, as the video began.
I didn’t notice Elise until she sat down with a thump next to me. “Great view,” she said breathlessly, pulling her sleeves over her hands.
I wondered why she’d followed me up here, but I tried to hide my annoyance.
“Yes, it is,” I replied absently. We were silent as the video played through.
She started talking just as Rosa appeared in the lines of pregnant girls. “How are you feeling? Should I check…?”
“Sh…” I said, putting my hand up to her face.
She crossed her arms over her chest and pouted like a child. “That was really rude,” she muttered.
I groaned, pulling my hair back with my hands and froze, my hands fixed over my head. There she was. I stared into the clouds, trying to will them closer.
“Rosa,” I whispered before I could stop myself. She blinked back at me, sad, disappointed. How could you leave me? she seemed to say.
“I’m sorry,” I told the clouds and the image of her from two years ago. That Rosa loved a different Joseph. I tried not to think about the Rosa of now and what was happening to her at this exact moment, because my mind conjured horrible things.
Elise played with her fingers. “It’s ok… you’re obviously stressed about something.”
“What? No.” I wasn’t talking to her.
God, she sounded like a doctor when she talked.
“Wow, look at that girl with heterochromia. Amazing eyes. She’s beautiful.” Elise said, pointing in the sky.
You don’t even know.
I should have told her, that’s Rosa, but I didn’t. I was hoarding her memory. I didn’t want to share it with anyone.
The image faded.
She was gone.
This was torture.

I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognize that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practice given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes... I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It's a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each others loves - it works wonderfully...

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands - I shall forever remain cross-eyed.

When Jonathan decided to help Lisa, he was trying to atone in some way for his past sins. He certainly wasn't expecting to be pulled into a night full of hiding out from the press with a journalist called Sandra Haegen, and almost being choked to death by a rockstar in love with his ex.   When Sandra decided to help Lisa by feeding Perry, she was just trying to be a good person. She also wasn't expecting to spend the night hiding from the press. Even more so, she wasn't expecting to spend the night with one of Australia's hottest young actors, Jonathan Masters. She also wasn't expecting to save his life.   And that's just the beginning.   From there, these two must find a way live with the past and look to the future - no matter what the personal cost.

  Exclusive Except:
The next morning, I head into work to find yet another gift waiting for me on my desk. It’s a small white box with a blue ribbon tied around it, and the sight of it makes me stop in my doorway and immediately pull out my phone. “This needs to stop,” I say to myself with an annoyed shake of my head as I pull up Jonathan’s number and dial. He picks up within two rings. “Good morning, Red,” he chirps. “Stop sending me things,” I demand immediately. “You’ve got the wrong guy this time. Whatever you have, it wasn’t me. Maybe it was from that pretty boy you were kissing in the papers the other day.” “He’s not a pretty boy. You’re a pretty boy.” “That’s very sweet of you to say,” he jokes. “Well, I’m a sweetheart, what can I say. Listen, sorry to attack you, I should have checked the card first.” “You can call me anytime, for anything. I won’t hold it against you.” “Ok,” I laugh. “I’m hanging up now.” “Alright, you do that. But, Red, when am I going to see you again?” “I haven’t decided on that yet.” “You’re hurting me. I just want to be your friend and you’re putting up road blocks.” “I’m totally not buying this friend act.” “You should, because it can’t be more unless you want it to be. Besides, we have fun. We get along. You want fun, right?” “You’re trying too hard, Jonathan. I’m going now.” I can hear the smile in his voice. “Bye, Red.” Hitting the end call button, I walk over to my desk and pull the blue ribbon on the box to get to the card. For your tastebuds. Call me. Brad Smiling, I open the box and find a red velvet cupcake inside. When I bite into it–and yes, I eat it immediately–it’s the softest, most flavour-filled baked treat I have ever had the pleasure of eating–and I’ve eaten a lot, so I know what I’m talking about. “You are very popular lately,” Erin, our receptionist comments on her way past my office. “You’re getting more deliveries than anyone else here. And the guy who dropped that off was H-O-T. Oh my lord, you are one lucky woman.” “He was here?” I ask, pointing at the box as I talk through a mouthful of cake. “I think so. Dark hair, brown eyes, tatts all over his arms? He was wearing a white bonds shirt, a pair of jeans, and some Vans. He didn’t seem like a courier to me.” “That’s him alright. How long ago?” “Maybe an hour? I told him you don’t get in until nine.” I swallow the last of the cake and lick the crumbs off my fingers and my lips, apologising that there was only one in the box as I do. Then I thank Erin for dropping by and when she leaves, turn to my phone again, this time ringing the correct person for a thank you.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

She'd been dealt too many blows to count. He'd always lived life on easy street. Are they Yin and Yang or a mistake of epic proportions?
Makeup artist Reggie Reynolds has endured a life as colorful as her ever-changing hair. After a painful childhood and a tragic adolescence, by sheer force of will, she found success – first in Hollywood, then on Broadway. Returning to her hometown offers a chance to help her aging grandfather and realize her dreams, not to mention soothe a broken heart. But even her storied past won't prepare Reggie for what happens in her next chapter.
When reporter Eddie Besson meets Reggie on a flight to New York City, he thinks he's at an all-time high-point in his cushy, perpetual-youth life. Twenty-four hours with Reggie changes Eddie's perspective. Despite the fact she doesn't want anything to do with him when he leaves, Eddie can't stop thinking about the girl from New York City long after he's gone from the Big Apple.
As Eddie's perfectly-orchestrated life falls apart, he has some tough decisions to make, with only one thing certain: there will be consequences to pay for his lackadaisical approach to adulthood. Reggie's own soul-searching reveals some painful truths, including guilt about passing judgment on the guy from Maine. When she runs into Eddie again – this time on his home turf – sparks fly and decisions must be made, choices that aren't universally well-received. Will this unlikely pair go all-in, find a way to balance the scales and live life on their own terms? Or will tragedy tear them apart for good?

EXCERPT

The girl with the pink and black striped hair kept looking at him. Eddie thought he was just being paranoid at first, but she was definitely staring. He didn't think he could possibly know her – after all, she looked like part of a Punk crowd, and despite his appreciation for the genre, that was definitely not his speed of social group. Maybe they'd had classes together in college. She might be around his age. But though he felt like he knew her somehow, he didn't recognize her. Pink Hair didn't make any effort to engage him. Nonetheless, there she was, staring again. This time, though, her eyes watered and she looked like she struggled to keep the tears away. Maybe she wasn't staring at him so much as through him. He should probably ignore her. But then her eyes drifted shut and a tear escaped, running down a surprisingly angelic face. Shit, he thought. Don't do it, Besson. Just stay where you are. Too late. He got up and moved to sit next to her. When he put his hand over hers, she jumped a little and looked at him, confused. “Hey, you okay?” Eddie asked. “Um, not really. But it's nothing. Don't worry about it.” “If it was nothing, then you wouldn't be crying. Want to talk about it?” Jesus, what was it with him and providing an ear these days? First Kay and her marital troubles, now a stranger? Who next? Maybe she'd say no. Hopefully. “No, that's okay.” Oh, good. That's a relief, he thought. Eddie's hand was still covering hers and she looked down at it. Since she didn't pull her hand away, Eddie left his there. Maybe it comforted her. Maybe it would be enough and she wouldn't use him as a sounding board. She sniffed and when she looked up she smiled at him. “I'm Reggie.” “Eddie. You headed to New York?” “Yeah. You?” He nodded. “I've got a meeting.” “Oh? You in finance or something?” Eddie laughed. Hardly. “No. Reporter. I work at a small-town newspaper up north. My boss is sending me to meet with a potential new buyer for the paper.” She'd bristled a little at the word 'reporter', but relaxed again when he said he worked at a small-town paper. Huh. “Because you run things?” “Nah. They want to meet with all the editors and I was away when they came last month. I guess it's nearly a done deal and they want to figure out where we all fit in their organization.” “Oh. How long are you in the city?” “A day. Fly down today, fly back tomorrow. What about you? Why are you headed to NYC?” “I live there. Well, in Brooklyn, anyway. I work in the city.” “What do you do? If you don't mind my asking. Sorry. Reporter's instinct to ask questions.” “It's okay. I'm a makeup artist.” “Oh yeah? Where do you work? In the movies?” “I did. For a long time I worked in L.A. on movie and TV sets. I've been on a Broadway play for the past seven months. We were supposed to be done after six weeks. Then it stretched to six months. We're regrouping right now, but we're back to work tomorrow. They're talking about a long-term run.” “Sounds like you're pretty excited about it.” “It's basically my dream job. I always wanted to work on Broadway, but it's hard to get into the business there. Much easier in Hollywood, where there are a million different productions. Eventually, if you meet the right people, you're set. I got lucky and hooked up with a stylist when he was just getting started. That led to where I am now.” Eddie smiled. “Seems like you made some smart moves.” “I did. Now I get to work in my hometown and be near my family.” Eddie laughed. “Me too. But somehow, I don't think my hometown quite compares with yours.” “No? Population isn't in the millions? No loud noises, smelly exhaust or ridiculous traffic?” “No all-night takeout, no clubs with up-and-coming music. No way to escape your family, even when they're driving you nuts. I love everything about New York.” “Me, too,” Reggie said. “Those are just people's usual complaints. But everything you said, that's the reasons why I love living there. Plays, music, art, culture, food, history. It's all there.” Now boarding Delta Flight 1220 to New York's LaGuardia at Gate 8. Please have your ID and boarding passes ready. “I guess it's time to board. Where are you sitting?” Eddie asked. “Um, 14C,” Reggie said, looking at her boarding pass. “No way. I'm in 14A. Looks like we're sitting together.” Reggie smiled. “Good. I was going to have to ask your seatmate if I could switch. Now I don't have to do that.”

MY REVIEW
*I was provided a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

Reggie is one of those ladies that has the philosophy of find a way make a way. I admire that. She is a strong character and she works through whatever life throws at her. So much so that she almost misses something right there in front of her. I also think that her ability to change her look so dramatically is direct relation to the fact that she can control this aspect of her life as much as she wishes, and she can't control the rest.
Eddie was a carefree guy who was just happy to float around in life and enjoy whatever life brought his way. He is as opposite of Reggie as one can get- it was no wonder that she didn't want anything to do with him LOL.
I really like how the tow of them came back together, it's a story of learning to hope in between the storms, redemption even.
Grab yourself a mug of cocoa and sit back and read this. You won't regret it!!

CHARACTER BIOS

Eddie Besson is that guy, the one who still acts like he's in college, despite entry into his 30's. As the sports editor for his small, hometown newspaper, he lives above his parents' garage, spends his free time hanging out at the one bar in town and strings along his high school girlfriend. The kicker is that he doesn't really think there is anything wrong with his life. Until he meets Reggie Reynolds, and suddenly, his world seems pathetic and wasteful.
Broadway and Hollywood makeup artist Reggie Reynolds fought hard for the life she has now. Abandoned by her parents, she clung to her beloved grandparents as long as she could. But her grandmother was taken by illness, and now her grandfather is succumbing to age. She has never been lucky in love and is sure she is doomed for a life without it. Then she meets Eddie Besson and the world gets a little brighter, even if just for a moment.
