In simple language, Pauline Creeden creates worlds that are both familiar and strange, often pulling the veil between dimensions. She becomes the main character in each of her stories, and because she has ADD, she will get bored if she pretends to be one person for too long. Pauline is a horse trainer from Virginia, but writing is her therapy. Her books have hit #1 on the Amazon Bestseller List and Armored Hearts won the 2013 Book Junkie’s Choice Award in Historical Fiction. First Impression: A Shadow Maven Paranormal is her first mystery. It’s a dark urban fantasy and will be released March 31, 2014.

Excerpt:
(Please note that the Excerpt is from the Unedited ARC and may change a bit before the finished book is released)
Ben pulls open the office door and stands to the side to allow me to go first. The hallway that was empty only a short while ago is now full of kids and their incessant conversations. With a shrug, I eye his class schedule quickly. Except for second and sixth period, we have exactly the same schedule. He’s in all of the advanced classes, too. Only he has gym for second period, and Latin for sixth – opposite of my schedule, except I take French.
Piece of cake.
I glance up at him again, and his eyes meet mine. My breath hitches. Something in his intense gaze makes me feel like he’s measuring me. And there’s something strange about his eyes. They’re brown, but I can tell he has colored contacts. Why would anyone color their eyes brown?
Something about the way he’s looking at me makes my heart flutter. A sniffle escapes me before I can stop it. Ugh. I clear my throat and start in the direction of first period. “Follow me.”
We elbow our way down the freshman hall toward the second floor, but before we start up I point down the way. “Do you know what your locker number is?”
Ben nods and pushes his backpack up on his shoulder further.
I wait for a second and then smile. “What is it?”
“706.” He has a slight accent and his voice is deeper than I expect. I suppress a shiver at the jolt that the musical timbre of his voice sends through my body. I’m resonating like a tuning fork. I really want him to speak again with every fiber of my being. What’s with me?
“Uh…okay.” I swallow, trying to regain composure. And take him to the general area of the locker. “Here it is.”
He looks at it, nods, and returns his gaze to me.
“I know you don’t have any books to put in it, but do you want to try out the combination?”
He lifts one shoulder in a shrug and spins the combo quickly through the three numbers. I purposefully look around so he knows I’m not peeking. He opens the locker wide, nods toward me and then closes it again.
“Great. We have first period over here.”
“You and I have the same first period?”
My body vibrates again, and I blink hard. So glad my back was to him so he couldn’t see the effect his voice has on me. I swallow and face him. “Actually, yeah. Our schedules are very similar. It’s a smallish school so there’s only a few tracks that juniors can be on.”
He nods, and his eyes are half lidded as if he’s bored already.
I lead him toward our class room. “We don’t really have assigned seats, so you can pretty much sit anywhere you want. I’ll show you to the gym at the end of class. I have French next, but it’s not too far from there.”
I lead him to the front of the class, and my friend, Tasha Brown gives me a wan smile and raises her eyebrows, looking back and forth between me and Ben. She mouths, Who’s that?
I roll my eyes and put up one finger toward her to let her know I’ll tell her in a minute. Then I turn to the teacher. I hand him the schedule from the office. “Hi, Mr. Scott. This is Ben Oscuro, a transfer.”
Mr. Scott sets down the Mountain Dew he was drinking and offers Ben a wide grin. He puts a hand out for him to shake. Ben hesitates but takes the hand in what looks like a firm grip. Mr. Scott shakes his hand afterward. “That’s some grip you’ve got there.” He laughs and leans down to the bottom drawer of his desk and hands Ben a Geography text book.
With a nod, I return to Tasha and squeeze into the desk next to hers. Because I’m at Jackson Hall partially on scholarship and partially on my father’s insurance money, I’m somewhat of a social pariah. My only real friend is Tasha, a pariah herself, being one of the few African-American kids in the school. Still she tends to be more popular than me, because at least her family does have money. And then there’s that rumor…
“So who is the new hottie?” Tasha hops up and down in her seat.
I shake my head at her. “You are one big hormone, you know that? Sure, he’s cute, but is there any guy in the room you don’t consider a hottie?”
Tasha scans the room, considering for a moment with her hand on her chin and a very serious expression on her face. Her hair is in the typical pigtail braids she usually uses to play up the uniform. She has on no sweater, and her shirt is one size too small, causing the buttons at the front to bow and expose part of her red bra. Finally she returns her gaze to me. “There’s only one guy in here that doesn’t rank hottie.”
“Really? Who?”
She leans in conspiratorially and whispers, “Mr. Scott.”
I nearly choke on a laugh as I eye the middle aged, balding teacher at the front of the room. But I have to admit, Jackson Hall is a prep school. And no one can afford to make their children look their best more than the wealthy. I guess if I take my father’s words to heart, it’s better to be the poor kid in the rich kids’ school…than the other way around. Right?
Tasha’s smile returns and I follow her gaze to figure out why. Ben Oscuro walks down the aisle between us and takes the desk right behind mine. The hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. He smells like pine and mint, and it reminds me of the outdoors. When I open them again, Tasha’s smile has grown impossibly wider. She leans towards me and whispers, “What was that you said about hormones again?”
I shove my elbow toward her but she dodges me with a giggle.

Author Biography
S. M. Anderson (Sarah Anderson) was born in
Lima, Peru. She has lived in seven different countries, on
five continents, and speaks a smattering of languages. As
a child and even young adult, writing and reading were
difficult for her, so difficult that she received extra help

outside the classroom and was diagnosed with a learning

disability. However, she always loved stories, especially
ethnic folktales from the countries she lived in. It was the
desire to create stories of her own that fueled her
determination to overcome the challenges that came with
writing. She has a BA in Art Education from BYU, with a
minor in Russian, and a love of power tools. She has a
growing family of three kids and currently lives in Springville, Utah.

Target Audience/Markets
Copied will find a home in the hearts of readers who enjoyed Divergent and the TV show Heroes. The novel contains enough action to engross male readers with a romantic subplot that will captivate the fairer sex. Although Copied’’s main target audience is teenagers the core of the story deals with ethical dilemmas that will trigger a crossover appeal to more mature readers.

Reviews
“Unique and captivating story about a boy who discovers he isn’t who he thought he was. In fact, there isn’t only one of him. And when faced with a very different version of himself, he is forced to look within and decide who he wants to be. Sometimes it takes looking at oneself, literally in this case, to become who you want to be. I can’t think of many things that would totally freak me out, but running into a copy of myselfa copy that is so unlike mewould top the list. The theme that no one is as they seem permeates this novel.
Copied is full of compelling characters that are easy to care about and root for. They are not cookie-cutter, bumbling teens, but smart, strong, and proactive. I had to finish in a hurry to discover how it would turn out for them.
You won’t be able to put it down as the mysteries of these teens’ lives unfold. It may even have you questioning who you are and where you came from.
A chilling tale of nature vs. nurture, the power of trusting, and the belief in the transformative power of kindness to change who we are. The underlying theme that we can choose to be whoever we want to be, despite what we’ve been taught, screams from the pages of Copied.
I highly recommend this clean, intriguing novel--don't miss it.”

-Cindy M. Hogan, author of the Watched trilogy.

"Copied by S. M. Anderson was a fresh, exciting novel that seamlessly wove
together elements of science fiction with our everyday world. Not only was it a great
read, but it got me thinking--what makes a person truly unique, and what would
happen if that uniqueness was challenged? I definitely recommend it."

- Tristi Pinkston, freelance editor and author
I received this book for free for an honest review.
This is a fast paced, action filled book!  Once you start reading it, you wont want to put it down!  Xan happens to be a normal teenager until he is one day framed with starting a fire that hurts someone very close to him.  He then has so many life altering reveals that it's insane!
Xan's life he finds, may not be his own and he has to find out what has been a lie told to him his whole life.
This is very engaging as a read.  I highly recommend it for any audience teen and up.  I lost a bit of sleep on this one, be sure you can read in one sitting.  You really wont want to put it down!!

CHARACTER BIOS

Émile Gilles Gaston Dubois, born in Avignon in Southern France in 1770, is the first of four children born to th4e ill matched Armand and Anne Dubois. When the revolution breaks out in 1789 the family chateau is razed, his two youngest siblings accidentally killed and he has to live undercover as he and his valet and later partner in crime, Georges, smuggle his surviving sister Charlotte out of the country. After that, he stays in France trying to rescue his parents, who having conspired against the new state, are imprisoned and awaiting execution.

Meanwhile, he is the robber Gilles Long Legs who along with a couple of fellow rogues, runs an eighteenth century equivalent of a protection racket, while ‘Southern Georges’ runs a rival one.

In this guise he meets and falls in love with a respectable English girl, Sophie de Courcy, who has been robbed and cannot explain how she comes to be in Paris; she suddenly vanishes as strangely as she appeared (she has arrived there through a time warp).

After his parents execution, he and Georges leave the country for the UK, where Émile finds more disaster; his sister Charlotte succumbs to a decline.

Émile, now completely reckless of his life and finding his finances temporarily tied up, decides along with Georges – who is always game for adventure - to take up a career as a ‘Gentleman of the Road’ until in danger of capture, they take a brief break at his cousin Lord Ynyr’s mansion on the Famau Mountain in North Wales.

Here he is astounded to find the girl he met in Paris, Sophie de Courcy, working as his aunt’s companion. She has no memory of their meeting and is astounded at his passionate advances. He is enraged, and assuming that she has something to hide, accuses her of having been In Paris on a ‘disreputable adventure’ and offers her money to become his mistress. She is outraged in turn…

Meanwhile, Émile meets too a nearby neighbor, his old associate Goronwy Kenrick, who at the outbreak of the war with France returned from extensive travels in Eastern Europe - including Transylvania, of course - during which he lost his beloved wife. Kenrick has now become obsessed by the idea that time travel is possible through refining the use of thought forms by the addition of mathematics, and is eager to recruit Émile into his researches. Both Émile and Lord Ynyr laugh at him, and then Émile further affronts him by taking from his household the waif Katarina, who has been ill treated there.

Unable to get over his passion for the virtuous Sophie, Émile tries to distract himself by pursuing Kenrick’s lovely wife Ceridwen, despite Katarina’s warnings that both of the Kenricks are half vampires…

Sophie de Courcy, born in Chester 1773, comes from a déclassé branch of the same family as Émile and Lord Ynyr. Her brother having remarried has packed her off to be companion to their grand relatives in their manor on the Famau Mountain in North Wales, finding her upkeep a burden. He regularly writes advising her to try and make a good match through the Count and old Countesses’ influence.

Lord Ynyr and his mother treat Sophie very kindly, but having a romantic streak, she longs for adventure; meanwhile she tries to attract the good natured Lord Ynyr.

When the dashing, witty and wicked Émile Dubois comes to stay with the Count and Countess, Sophie is soon won over, and wishes that she hadn’t been too stunned to accept the passionate proposal he made her on the first night of his stay; still, she has no memory of meeting him as Gilles Long Legs in Paris, as he insists, and knows that she has never been to Paris at all. But whether or not her rascally admirer is deluded, she falls for him anyway.

Meanwhile, Sophie’s Tarot reading maid Agnes is finding it hard to resist her own admirer in Georges, while her cards predict black magic and danger to them all. Sophie has always been scared of the Kenricks ; she dreads their influence on Émile.

Angelia Pershing was always an imaginative child, creating games for her brother and cousins to play, and, when she grew too old for make believe games, she discovered writing as a way to channel that imagination. After finishing high school, Angelia studied English literature in college. She graduated in 2011 from Texas Woman's University with a Bachelors of Arts in English and a minor in Education, and became a high school English teacher. She currently teaches ninth and tenth graders, hoping to inspire the next group of young writers. She lives outside of Dallas, Texas, is looking forward to her wedding with her fiancé, John, and enjoys spending time with her cat, Mitten.

Douglas Pershing was born and raised in Oregon. Having spent his early childhood in Seaside and later splitting his high school years between Hillsboro, Portland, and finally finishing up in Eugene--needless to say--he has seen a lot of Oregon. Ironically, growing up, he was never much of a reader. After taking some creative writing classes in college he discovered that he had stories to tell--Who knew?
Having spent his career in the tech industry he found himself moving his wife, Tamy, his daughter, Angelia, and his son, Cory to Texas. After nine years in the Dallas area (DeSoto and Celina), his family made many lifelong friends--Go Bobcats!
Douglas now resides in the suburbs of Phoenix Arizona with his wife and son. Although the northwest life didn't prepare him and his family for the desert heat or the unexpected haboob's (that is an actual word: Google it) of the monsoon season, the family has settled into a nice life with good friends.
Douglas enjoys movies, reading, painting, and playing guitar when he is not writing. What he does not enjoy are scorpions and stepping in water with clean socks.

*I was given this ebook for free in exchange for an honest review.
This is absolutely one of my new favorites!! This is the first book of Diana Nixon's that I have read, and I was totally not let down!!  The characters are well developed, there is a strong female lead... the list goes on!! It's really refreshing to have a character come in and see how frustrating something is, react and rise above it.  I also enjoyed that the flaws in the charge that she was given.  I don't want to give too much away, but Alan is a complicated soul and it's Claire's job to take care of him.  Go get involved in the series, but be warned.... cliffhangers abound!!!
