An Interview With Author Starla Huchton
What was the inspiration for the Evolution series?
The Evolution series was inspired by childhood memories of comic books coupled with the recent deluge of superhero movies coming out of Hollywood. I thought putting a romance spin on the superhero genre sounded like a heck of a lot of fun.

Which character do you feel you most identify with?
While I know Candace best, I’d probably have to say (and my friends agree) that I’m more like her cousin in personality. Gabe is a bit stubborn (not to Candace’s level, but it’s still there), snarky, but still cares deeply for the important people in his life. He’s often Candace’s voice of reason, and I like the idea that I would be that kind of person as well.

You write in a number of genres, do you have a favorite or does the variety help fuel your writing?
I really love the variety I have in writing in whatever genre fits the story. For me, it’s not about sticking to one genre or category so much as telling the story and figuring out the rest later. I don’t want to be restricted by only writing sci-fi or fantasy or contemporary or historical, or whatever the case may be. There’s a place for every book in the world and life is way too short and filled with too many stories to restrict myself to just one kind.

What is the one book you can read over and over?
There are very few books I’ve been able to read more than once, but Madeline L’engle’s A Wrinkle in Time never gets old. I’ve been a different age and in a different stage of life every time I’ve read it, and I consistently find new meaning and layers to the words of the story. To me, that’s the best kind of book: a timeless tale that speaks to a reader no matter where they are in life.

Who is your all-time favorite author?
I’ve read everything Douglas Adams ever wrote, primarily because I love his style and humor. I can’t say that about most authors (example: I love Harry Potter, but have no interest in reading Rowling’s other work). So I suppose I’d say he’s my favorite.

In addition to writing you also design book covers for other authors, have you always had this combination of creativity and entrepreneurial spirit?
Well… that’s a difficult question. I really feel like I sort of just stumbled into all of this stuff, but I suppose maybe. Growing up, my teachers liked to describe me as “marching to the beat of my own drummer” and I’ve always loved reading and writing creatively. I think all of that, coupled with my own lack of patience for certain things, sort of fuels the do-it-yourself attitude I have about publishing. And since I developed certain skills for my own pursuits, going into business as a cover designer fell in line with the “lift as you climb” mentality I like to aspire to. It’s because I’m an indie running on pennies for a budget that I offer my services so other indies can afford them. Bad covers make me sad, and I see far too many authors that think they can’t afford better. I’m really happy that I can tell stories in words and in images, and that I can provide that to other people as well makes it that much sweeter.

What advice would you give to young women with a talent and passion for storytelling?
Don’t be afraid to let your voice be heard. If you a story to tell, tell it! Never let anyone try to dissuade you from following what your heart tells you is the right path. The more you write, the braver you will get in your storytelling, and you’ll always be surprised at the support you’ll find in the strangest of places. Keep your eyes and ears open and you’ll be sure to find them.

I am in love with this series!
Evolution: SAGE is absolutely one of the best sophomore books I have ever read.
This is the follow up story to Evolution: Angel and is the story of Candice, a young girl chosen from applicants to become a real life super hero.
Book two picks up just after book one has ended and we are taken directly into the heartache of a girl forced to do the unthinkable in order to save those she cares about.
With a broken spirit, she has to move forward or face a fate that is unspeakable. You absolutely feel her pain with the turn of every page, and when she finds herself moving forward, she picks up some new traits and finds a reason to keep breathing. Don't worry... I'm not going to spoil it for you.
You have just got to read this series! It has everything you could possibly need in a great read. You will laugh, you will cry, you will fall in love, you will not set this book down.
S.A. Huchton invites you into a world that you wont want to leave.
Absolutely my favorite read of the summer, and I believe it will be yours as well.
