A lie is a prison without bars.

A captive of the enemy, Candace is forced to confront mistakes and regrets from both sides of the battlefield, including her own. The truth is not always what it seems, and can be a prison of its own.
Alone, she must decide where she stands. Alone, she must decide who to trust.
When the smoke clears, what's left might not be much…

But it might be enough.

Character Interview: Jackson Lawrence

So, Jackson, thanks for meeting with me today. I know you're very busy these days with

Yes. Very busy. What did you want to ask me?

Um... Okay, I guess we'll get right to it then. Tell us a little about yourself before you became a superhero. What was your life like?

I've been in foster homes since I was eight, but feel free to keep your pity to yourself. I graduated high school early and worked construction jobs until they picked me up for the ANGEL Project.

It must have been hard growing up without a

Can we skip that part? I'm not here to share a sob story.

Uh, sure. Let's talk about your life after you were selected by the program. I understand you had a rough go of it and it was nearly a year before you started the treatments. Why did they wait so long?

*chuckle* Let's just say I had a problem playing well with others. I was never great with taking orders, but someone finally convinced them I was worth taking a chance on. She's the only reason I'm here today.

She? Who was it that convinced them?

Candace. Honestly, I couldn't figure out why she would've stuck her neck out for me then. I wasn't exactly pleasant to be around. But I've learned a lot about her since then. Candace isn't the type to give up on people, no matter who they are. Even when everyone else was ready to toss me out, she saw something worth taking a chance on. Don't take that to mean she's a doormat, though. I'm pretty sure she decided it's her job to call me out on my b.s., and she never fails to correct me when I'm wrong.

She sounds like an amazing woman. I take it you're close then?

That's one way of saying it, yes.

How else would you say it?

I'd say I'd kill anyone that tried to hurt her. I'd say no one will ever come close to being what she is to me. I'd say there's nothing I wouldn't do to help her and nothing I wouldn't stand by her through. I'd say she's the most beautiful, intelligent, infuriating, passionate, stubborn, confident, truly heroic woman I've ever known. Does that answer your question?

Well, yes. That's a pretty clear statement of your feelings. Let's switch gears then. How about the inside scoop on your ability? Fire is a dangerous element, what's it like to control something so destructive?

It's not so much fire I control as it is an ability to gather heat energy. If I run hot enough, I can move at the speed of light by splitting fire into light and heat. That's only for short bursts, though, as I have to expel that excess before I burn up. As to what it's like to control something that dangerous... Well, it's like an emotion more than anything. To feel something really excessively is dangerous, so you learn to control it out of self-preservation. Fire runs about as hot as my temper, so I'm pretty practiced at knowing when I need to check myself. And if I slip up, Candace is usually there to cool my head.

Did you ever see yourself being featured so prominently in the media? It seems these days that every reporter on the planet is out to interview superheroes. Do you miss being a normal human?

While I never saw myself being a main attraction, I knew what went with the superhero territory. I can't say I miss being a normal person too much, though. The quiet and privacy was nice, but I wouldn't trade the things I've been given and been given the chance to do for anything.

Then on behalf of the world, we thank you, Mr. Lawrence, for your service and sacrifice. Thanks for speaking with us today!

Evolution: Hex is the third installment on the Evolution series by S.A. Huchton and just like the first two books in the series it is FANTASTIC!  I love the style, I love the characters, I love the dialogue and I love the way this series has developed.

Once again we are transported to a world where superheros are not born but are made.  Candace is now in the hands of the "enemy", but are they truly the enemy?  While she is learning that some of what she has been told might not be the whole truth, but can she trust her captors?

I don't really know what I can say about Evolution: Hex that I haven't already said about the first two books in the series so I am making an appeal to author Starla Huchton to please, please, please give us more.  This is by far the best series I have read in a while!

Evolution: Hex is not a stand alone book so do yourself a favor and buy all three books in the Evolution Series, Angel, SAGE, and Hex.  A word of warning, be sure to clear your schedule because you will not want to stop reading!
Happy Reading!

This book was so fantastic!
I absolutely did not want this series to end! Evolution: Hex is book three in the series and it picks up just after book two has ended. We find Candace has been taken by the enemies and is being pushed for answers as well as to become a member of their team. Are they really wrong???
I just have to have more!! I have to see what happens next!
I want to live in the world that Starla Huchton has created, it is that awesome.
This series has been the best series I've ever read and I absolutely will be the first to suggest to you that you go out and read it. There are some suggestive parts, so I would say for the age 16+ due to some sexual scenes and violence.
Please.... Starla Huchton..... We have to have more!!!!!
